The perfect culmination of True Concord’s season The American Dream: music from the iconic American musical West Side Story and The Great American Songbook.

Based on Romeo and Juliet, West Side Story is one of the great classics of the 20th century. Conceived by Jerome Robbins with music by Leonard Bernstein and lyrics by Stephen Sondheim, this work takes the classic tale into a relatable modern American context, changing the landscape of American musicals. Bernstein’s evocative style brings to life the story of love in the face of division.

“…a juke-box Manhattan opera…
…fascinatingly tricky and melodically beguiling…”

–John Chapman review, The New York Daily News, 1957

Swing to The Great American Songbook, the American pop music of the 1920’s to 50’s, with sounds and songs that reflect who we were and where we came from. When you hear these songs, you know them! This is the music that is in our cultural DNA.

The most important and influential
American popular songs and jazz standards
from the early 20th century.”
