LOVE20 – True Concord’s 20th Anniversary Season

We are so excited to announce our upcoming season, LOVE20It’s hard to believe that this is our 20th Anniversary, and we can’t wait to continue creating experiences that move, enrich and inspire with you. These past 20 years could not be possible without all of our treasured patrons. Thank you!

Eric Holtan, Founding Music Director of True Concord Voices & Orchestra, today announced the 2023-24 True Concord lineup–LOVE20–at a season reveal event celebrating the Grammy- and Emmy-Honored True Concord’s generous Board Members and donors. Holtan said, “As I began to put the 20th season together, one word kept coming back to me, inspired by repertoire choices, by our marvelous artists, by our extraordinary public–Board, donors, audience, media, kids, our ever-expanding group of partners–and that word was Love. The love we all feel for music, that powerful sense that envelops all of us at a performance and that has been so particularly comforting these last few years. And the love we feel for Tucson and the support the city has expressed to us these two decades.” The 20th season includes a bounty of new–a combination of 20 new things–new artists, new works, new concerts, new venues, new collaborations–all to celebrate this important milestone.

True Concord is proud to present Southwest and World Premieres from prize winners Dine-American composer Raven Chacon (2022 Pulitzer Prize) and Nicholas Ryan Kelly (Stephen Paulus Emerging Composers Competition). In addition, the 20th True Concord Season features classic masterworks from Bach, Mozart, Poulenc and Bernstein, and fresh American works like the Love Song program with Whitacre’s Five Hebrew Love Songs and This Is How You Love from True Concord’s Co-Composers-In-Residence, married couple Jocelyn Hagen and Timothy C. Takach.

True Concord will bring back to its stages works that have had tremendous significance in the ensemble’s history including Mozart’s C-Minor Mass (especially key in what will be the 40th anniversary of the most awarded, highest grossing, most popular classical music film ever made, Amadeus); Hagen’s Notebooks of Leonardo da Vinci, a true hit for True Concord, and with fantastic projections, the visual being so very attractive to our audiences, new and veteran; and Bach’s St. John Passion in what will be the 300th anniversary of this dramatic masterpiece.

Soloists include Cardiff Singer of the World soprano Nicole Cabell in recital and with True Concord in Poulenc’s Gloria honoring the French composer’s 125th birthday; Kristian Holtan, boy soprano, in Bernstein’s Chichester PsalmsNation, Jocelyn Hagen and Timothy C. Takach’s a capella vocal band; GRAMMY-Nominated Brian Giebler as Evangelist in Bach’s St. John Passion; and longtime True Concord Core Soprano Erika Burkhart in a program of classical works and standards in The Century Room.

Holtan said, “I’m especially proud that our Close-Up Vocal Recital series sold out in 2023-23, plus large houses for our annual holiday gift to Tucson, Lessons & Carols. This coming season Lessons & Carols will be complemented by a newly-designed Holiday Special at a new venue for us, the beautiful Crown Room at Skyline Country Club.

New for 2023-24 at the request of our loyal audiences and for their convenience, all seats will be reserved, guaranteeing locations in each venue, and concerts in Green Valley will begin at 3pm, Saturday nights at Catalina Foothills H.S. Music Hall will begin at 7pm.
